Simanindo

Simanindo has many tourist attractions like : Huta Gok Asi, where performances of the naposo dance (a marriage dance) can be seen every day. There is also the Huta Bolon Museum. The Village of Huta Bolon is also known for its dance performance like Mangalahat Horbo, Sigale-gale and Tunggal Panaluan.

Mangalahat Horbo, Sigale-gale and Tunggal Panaluan which are permormed at 11.30 p.m everyday. Tehre is Tao Isle which is 2 KM from the beach to Lake Toba. THE STORY

There are several legends about Lake Toba, but they are basically all the same expect for a few detail. This is the story : Once upon a time, there was a man who lived around a ravine of Toba Hill. Nobody knew when arrived or where came from. He lived in a small temporary hut on a farming area by the river, surrounded by an oval-shapped hill. he was a fisherman, he also owned a garden. Once, he found a big fish in his woven rattan fish trap and it changed his life, in fact, he had never caught such a big fish before. It was an extra-ordinary one. Then he put it in his hut and went out to think about how to cook it in a special way.

After a little while, he went back to the hut. To his surprise, it was not an ordinary fish but a supranatural one. it had turned into a beautiful princess. It is scales had changes in to beautiful jeweled ornaments and dreses fit for a princess. he than proposed to her, he asked her " will you be my wife " she nodded romantically.

The man was very happy. The princess said that she would like to get married with him but only with one condition. He should never tell any body that she had been a fish. The man a greed, seh told him that if the broke his promise that there would be tears parting and disaster. Finally, they lived happily and harmoniously whit their only daughter. After the daughter grew up, her mother always asked her to take her father's lunch to him where he was out working in the fields. But unfortunatly she was very greedy. Once, she ate up all the food that should have been given to her father. He was very angry when he saw her eating up all his food in the street. He shouted at her " You a rebeilious !!, you are really the offspring of a fish !!!".

The princess heard the husband curse and felt that he had broken their agreement, arriving home the daughter asked her mother, who was crying, about it. Without answering her daughter's question, she asked her to go a hill because there would be an disaster. After she had been praying for one minute there was an earthquake. Heacy rains feel down and springs came up from the ground. The place turned into Lake Toba and the hill into Samosir Island.

Brief History

During the Dutch Colonial Government, North Sumatera used to be included in and administrative region which was known as Government Van Sumatera with Medan as the administration center. It constituted of some residencies or 'keresidenan'. The administration system did not change a lot when government shifted f rom the dutch to the Japanese.

In 1946, the Province of Sumatera was diveded into three sub Provinces each of which was headed by a Junior Governor. The Three sub Provinces were North Sumatera, Central Sumatera and South Sumatera.

Then in 1948, the Indonesian Government once again revised Sumatera region into three Provinces, namely : North Sumatera (that included Aceh, East Sumatera and Tapanuli), Central Sumatera (that included West Sumatera, Riau, Jambi) and South Sumatera (that included Bengkulu, Palembang, Lampung dan Bangka Belitung). The new three provinces were given the autonomy to manage themselve according to law No. 10/1948. Therefore, April 15th, 1948 was decided to be the Anniversary of North Sumatera Province. Eventually, as law No. 24/ 1956 was enacted, the province of North Sumatera seperated from the other provinces and has the autonomy to manage itself.

Sialang buah beach which is about 60 km from Medan, faces the Malacca Starits, and similiar to Cermin Beach. Tourist can enjoy the seafood, fishing or swimming. Sialang buah beach can be reached by public bus or other tranportation.

It is mostly visited by local tourists from Medan, Langkat, Karo or Simalungun, and visited by other countries tourists from Australia, Singapore, Malaysia and others.

The climate of North Sumatera, just like other areas in Indonesia, is tropical. There are two seasons, i.e., the dry seasons (February to August) and the rainy seasons (September to January).

The rainfall varies from one region to another between 1000 mm and 4000 mm per year, with the temperature betwen 22 degree celcius - 30 degree celcius. The temperature in mountainous regions, such as Karo regency, North Tapanuli, and Dairi is lower than the average temperature throughout the rest of North Sumatera.

North Sumatera lies at latitude 1 degree North-4 degree North, longitude 98 degree East-100 degree East, and borders on the special region of Aceh on the North, the province of West Sumatera and Riau on the South, the Malacca Straits on the East, and the Indian Ocean on the West. The total land area of North Sumatera covers an area of 71,680 sq km. with in habitants.

The Province Of North Sumatera comprises 18 regencies, 7 municipalities. The capital is Medan. It is the western gate of teh Indonesian archipelago. It Faces the Malaysian Peninsula, and is seperated by the Malacca straits. Medan has developed a lot in the last several years. It also has a lot of historical remains which show how the traditional life styles were maintened by previous generations.

The province of North Sumatera is rich in flora and fauna. The main exports are rubber, tea, palm oil, cacao, coffee and tobacco. The fame of Deli tobacco has made North Sumatera well known in the world. Deli tobacco has been available ever since teh dutch colonial era. It is still exported to Europe and other countries. North Sumatera is also famous for its mani diffrent kinds of delicious fruits.

North Sumatera is predominantly covered by large forests, hilly areas, volcanos and some coastal areas with beautiful white sand. There are many tribes, diffrent kinds of interesting arts and crafts that can be found throughout the area.
